Now that you’ve learned the basics in Quilting 1, put those skills to use by making a sampler quilt! The Underground Railroad consists of a collection of blocks that, taken together, commemorate a means by which slaves reportedly fled from lives of servitude in the south to freedom in the north. Use traditional or modern fabrics for a completely different look. With this classic quilting sampler, you’ll be introduced to new techniques, such as paper piecing, curved seams, half square triangles and twirling your seams!
Students who register for this class need to be familiar with basic quilting and the tools involved. It is strongly recommended to have completed Quilting Basics at The Sewing Cafe or similar beginner quilt class (including piecing, machine quilting and binding)
The focus in Quilting Sampler will be making multiple blocks with different techniques, then piecing them together into a larger project. Use it as a wall hanging, bed runner or a lap quilt. Upon registration, you’ll be sent the fabric requirements for the class.
Cost: $150 +HST Includes the use of our sewing machines. Please bring your personal quilting tools, fabrics as required by the pattern. The Underground Railroad Book is available for purchase in shop. Please come in prior to class to discuss fabric options, purchase fabric and the blocks you want to make during this class.
