We want everyone to learn how to sew! Our Sewing Basics will get you going, from learning your way around a sewing machine to using a pattern to create a pillow and a lined zippered pouch.

Summer Sewing Week Camp
Spend the week sewing with us at the Sewing Cafe! Each day is set up for specific projects. Ages 9 – 12 yrs. We provide all the materials, tools and the use of our sewing machines. No sewing experience necessary. Each week will be a different theme! Please click on the theme for dates and details Holidays, Vacation/Sleepover, Cooking and of course Back to School!
All ages are welcome! Whether you are 8 years old or 88 years young. With your desire to learn, we will teach you how to sew in our Sewing Basics 1, 2 & 3. You can be a complete novice or in need of a refresher, as you haven’t sewn since high school! Machine sewing as well as hand sewing. Includes all materials and equipment, including a sewing machine.
Please note there are limited spaces for the summer as we are accommodating those students who had registered prior to the past lockdown, due to Covid.
Long Arm Quilting
Do you have quilt tops waiting to be quilted? Somewhere between the cutting, the piecing and then the binding, the quilting needs to be done. Whether you have baby quilts, table runners or a king size quilt, we can quilt them for you.
With our 20” Amara quilting machine, we use our Pro-Stitcher computer program to perfectly quilt your quilts edge to edge.
We also sell batting, 80% cotton, 20% polyester and wool batting 96″ or 108″ wide Backing fabrics too, 108″ wide.

Sewing Machine 101
Need a refresher on YOUR sewing machine? Learn the basics including, maintenance, needles, proper threading and all the features of your machine. Bring your mechanical or electronic machine, all accessories and manual. We supply the fabrics.
In this 5 week workshop, learn quilting basics including, rotary cutting, piecing and pressing, while completing a baby or lap quilt. We supply the rulers, rotary cutters, mats and sewing machines for you to use during class time. Experience all the tools of quilting!

Knits, Knits, Knits
Confused about sewing with knits? What pattern to use? What stitches to use? How to hem your garment? This workshop covers everything you need to know, as well as what needles and the stitches to use to ensure success with your projects. Whether you have a regular sewing machine, serger or coverstitch machine.
Learn the basics of hand sewing. From threading a needle easily, tying a knot, sewing on buttons that won’t fall off, to hemming your pants or skirt. We’ll show you various stitches including a running stitch, back stitch, blanket stitch. Invisibly sew a seam closed in your home dec pillow. We supply the sample fabrics to sew on. Please bring a basic sewing kit, including a couple of sizes of hand needles and thread.

Mitten Making Workshop
Have an old sweater you’re no longer interested in wearing? Even if it has a rip or a hole, it can still be repurposed into a pair of warm, winter mittens.

Hemming & Mending Workshop
Learn how to hem your pants and fix that rip and sew back on the buttons that have fallen off! And some simple alterations. Bring in 3 – 4 articles of clothing or items that need work. You’ll learn the best way to hem or fix it! We’ll supply the sewing machine!

Mystified by zippers! Hate putting them in. Lap, Exposed, Invisible zipper applications. Create samples and take-home instructions for these zippers as reference for your own projects! We will also discuss zipper repairs.
Quilt Workshop: Borders & Binding
Your quilt top is almost complete but what to do about borders & bindings? How to keep your quilt square? We’ll show you how to calculate yardage, join your borders and how to keep your quilt square. Then you’ll sew samples of a few different types of bindings to take home! Sewing machines, sample fabrics and threads provided.
Includes all materials. Ages 8 and up.
Summer Sewing Camps 2020
We had a blast with our summer camps! We only had 4 kids per week and made some very cool projects. Check out our Instagram or on Facebook for pictures.
Learn to make a stretch lacy bralette with adjustable straps for a fraction of the cost of one in the store. Pattern, fabric and notions supplied. Take home the confidence and pattern to make more! Please supply bra size when registering.
Includes all materials, thread, pattern and the use of our sewing machines! Please bring a basic sewing kit.
Some sewing experience necessary, including threading a sewing machine and understanding and following seam allowances.
Coffee Break Sewing
Need a sewing machine, serger, cutting table? Finish those UFO’s, mend those clothes. This is independent sewing as you work at your own pace and your own projects.
$12/hr plus HST | Please call ahead to make sure there is space and a machine available. You will need to bring your own thread or purchase in shop.
Prerequisite – Our Sewing Basics Class or a Refresher on our sewing machine before you begin ($10 plus HST).
Home Decor – Pillow Workshop
You can change the look of your décor with a few, fast and easy steps. Learn how to make perfectly shaped decorative pillows with invisible zippers. Sewing Machines provided. You bring your own fabric, thread, zippers and pillows. Or purchase in our shop.

Bra Making Workshop TBD
This 2 day class focuses on personal bra-making. Classes are small, so you get lots of personal attention. Your teacher will do all the fitting, so you can concentrate on learning how to sew your new beautiful and comfortable bra.
Prerequisite – Sewing experience necessary. Should be able to sew a sleeve into a garment.
Here’s what’s provided:
- 2 full days of in-class instruction and all the fitting
- Custom pattern for your perfectly fitting, most comfortable bra you have ever worn!
- Paper for tracing your pattern
- Course Kit: includes everything to make a bra
- Really Bad Jokes
- Free parking on the street or in the Green P lot behind the shop
- Coffee, tea and goodies
You Need to bring:
- Sewing Machine that will do straight stitches and zigzag stitches, in good working order ( and the manual, if possible) OR use ours. Let us know upon registration.
- Ball Point sewing machine needles, whether you bring yours or use ours
- Sharp Fabric Scissors (Rotary Cutter if preferred, we have mats), trimming scissors (Applique scissors), paper cutting scissors
- Pins and an Erasable Marker
- Pencil and small ruler
- A few spools of coloured of thread. (Your first bra will be white. Its a great idea to sew in a contrast thread so you can see your stitching, as this bra will be your reference for future bras)
- Your lunch (there are also many good restaurants in the area)
