Here at The Sewing Cafe we think everyone needs to know how to sew and to feel right at home doing it – kids, teens, adults, male and female. In our bright, inviting sewing place, hang out with other sewists to learn, unleash your inner designer and share your creativity. With fresh coffee and tea to help the process along!  Even if you’ve never sewn before, we can teach you! Our classes are small to ensure your sewing success.

All ages are welcome! Whether you are 8 years old or 88 years young. With your desire to learn, we will teach you to sew, in our Sewing Basics 1, 2 & 3.  Whether you’re a beginner and never sewn before or needing a refresher as you haven’t sewn since high school, we can get you sewing!


Sewing Machine 101

Need a refresher on YOUR sewing machine or serger? Learn the basics including threading, maintenance and all the features of your machine.


Zipper Workshop

Come learn how to not be afraid of zippers! Learn how to insert a variety of zippers including an invisible zipper.

One-Push Air Threading System

Bed Size

Serge through bigger projects with the wide flat work space. The AirThread 2000D offers ample sewing area with a sewing bed of 4.65” wide in front of the serging needle and 5.59” wide behind the needle. The bed is 9.67” deep as well.

Coffee Break Sewing

In our bright, inviting sewing place, hang out with other sewists to learn, unleash your inner designer and share your creativity. With fresh coffee and tea to help the process along!

We are outfitted with the latest sewing equipment:

  • CoverPro 2000CPX Coverstitch Machine
  • Janome Sergers, AT2000, 1110DX
  • Cutting Tables
  • Rotary Cutters
  • Irons and Ironing Boards

You must know how to use a sewing machine, Serger or Cover Stitch machine that you intend to use during your sewing time. We are always happy to offer assistance to ensure you’ve threaded the machine correctly, but if you need coaching, please check our class schedule!

Coffee Break Sewing is independent, unsupervised project time and an opportunity to use our machines, cutting table and sewing notions. You must supply your own thread, available for purchase. Our sergers are set up with black, white or grey thread. For other colours, please bring your own or available for purchase.

Cost is $10/hour + HST.


We sell thread, zippers, interfacings, T-shirt knits, activewear fabric, fun fleeces and a growing selection of cotton fabrics for quilting. Stop by the store today to pick up your sewing needs.
